The New Year is finally here and we want to remind you that Diabetes prevention is always in season. Diabetes statistics are still on the rise throughout the United States and the numbers are staggering. We want to encourage you to get checked and also use the resources near you to help you prevent or delay Type 2 Diabetes if you are the 1 in 3 of the Americans at risk.
Community education is proud to share of the ongoing success of our Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). Participants are well on their way to long term prevention of type-2 diabetes by collectively losing over 250 lbs and meeting or exceeding the goal of 150 minutes a week of physical activity. Henry Mayo has been recognized by the CDC as a center of excellence in providing the nationally recognized Diabetes Prevention Program.
Our next DPP cohort will begin in January, taking place on Wednesday evenings. If you or anyone you know is at risk for type-2 diabetes or has been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, consider joining our program. As a year-long program, we have the luxury of taking the slow and steady route. And as you know, slow and steady wins the race!
Research consistently shows that short-term changes, crash diets, and the like do not provide lifelong benefits. Eating healthier, moving more, identifying and coping with stress and learning how to stay on track are the cornerstones of the DPP. Coupled with the resources provided by having Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educators as facilitators, and Henry Mayo Fitness and other professional educators available to address their topics of expertise, makes Henry Mayo Community Education’s DPP a stand out.
